The Bridges at Toko-Ri (1954)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 104m
Director: Mark Robson
Cast: William Holden, Mickey Rooney, Grace Kelly, Fredric March

Synopsis:

During the Korean War a US Navy pilot resents having to leave his legal practice and young family to serve his country once more. Cherished equally by his wife and Admiral, he forms a bond with the ship's Search and Rescue helicopter pilot that proves critical when the crew undertakes a risky mission to destroy a strategically important set of bridges.

Review:

A good-looking Paramount war drama that treads with understandable circumspection around issues of the present conflict, and this is ultimately what limits the dramatic impact of a downbeat tale of heroism. The production obviously had access to naval equipment and the aerial sequences are impressive enough, but the spectacular miniature work, though well matched, ultimately made the bomb runs seem perfunctory and lacking in danger.
