The Beguiled (1971)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 109m
Director: Don Siegel
Cast: Clint Eastwood, Geraldine Page, Elizabeth Hartman

Synopsis:

A stray, wounded Union soldier is taken into a Southern girls' academy by what is left of the staff and students. Gradually he worms his way into each of their confidences until a dangerous rivalry emerges between them.

Review:

Siegel and Eastwood's most reflective film together has of course a lot less to say about the Civil War than it does about men and women, even if it does not delve quite so deeply as Coppola's remake. The focus on the leg for the women's nurturing and emasculating powers is well taken.
