Review:
Fascinating Cold War drama along the lines of a more by-the-book Dr Strangelove. All the pieces are there as we work our way helplessly towards the inevitably hubristic conclusion, the hawkish Widmark and dove-like Poitier making perfect sparring partners, even in their contrasting acting styles. The film was revisited, after a fashion, in Crimson Tide, much, much later.
