Borsalino (1970)

£0.00

Country: FR/IT
Technical: col 126m
Director: Jacques Deray
Cast: Jean-Paul Belmondo, Alain Delon, Michel Bouquet

Synopsis:

In 30s Marseilles a couple of happy-go-lucky crooks decide to go into business against the bigtime competition, but increased stakes bring their own price.

Review:

Sub-Melvillian attempt to duplicate the nonchalant charm of the star pairings exemplified by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, but a tinkly score and a few tommy guns cannot make up for the absence of good dialogue and a storyline content to revisit gangster movie clichés. (It need not be added that Belmondo and Delon are no Newman and Redford.) The film did have an impact on fashions, and a sequel, Borsalino & Co., followed in 1974.
