Impeccably mounted, somewhat detached crime drama in which Hoffman delivers a study in psychosis terrifying if without humour. One is never quite sure whether to respond to the eponymous errand boy with the amused contempt he deserves or whether the makers have in mind a more heroic role for him. Ultimately it lacks both adrenalin and satirical bite.
