Big Wednesday (1978)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/scope 119m
Director: John Milius
Cast: Jan-Michael Vincent, William Katt, Gary Busey

Synopsis:

Three surfing friends chase across the globe for that big wave.

Review:

The swell of the eponymous day is a long time coming, but is just about worth the wait, for non-surfers, that is. Doubts about the sincerity of Milius's homage to these latterday frontiersmen is understandable, since their presentation is so often a cross between Western charismatics and militaristic machismo, all of which seems somewhat incongruous given this hard-drinking, irresponsible, draft-dodging bunch; understandable, as I say, unless you know the Milius hero well. The photograph behind the director title, of young Milius surfer, puts us in the right, receptive frame of mind.
