Behind Enemy Lines (2001)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/2.35:1 106m
Director: John Moore
Cast: Owen Wilson, Gene Hackman, Gabriel Macht, Joaquim de Almeida

Synopsis:

A US pilot is shot down on a reconnaissance mission during the Balkans War, and the politics of the concurrent peace process mean that he is both hunted by Bosnian Serbs and sidelined by the UN representative at the base.

Review:

A taut thriller, which obviously enjoyed the full cooperation of the US Navy and Airforce, for the full iconography of take-off, landing and readiness shots is deployed in swift montage and slow-mo. There are also up to date digital and satellite effects to spice up the action, with choice snowbound locations giving a good sense of place. If you can take the gung-ho finish, complete with Rambo 'reveal' and bullet dodging, it is a stylish and pacy entertainment, with Wilson well cast in a non-action hero role.
