The Abyss (1989)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/scope 140m
Director: James Cameron
Cast: Ed Harris, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Michael Biehn

Synopsis:

The military uses specialist civilian divers to locate a missing submarine, and while at the bottom they encounter an alien species. However, could it be that their accompanying military personnel are more of a threat to everyone's safety?

Review:

Superbly produced, and quite gripping in spite of its length, Cameron's underwater 'contact' drama is certainly the best yet, and allowed him to amp up technology he would use on the next Terminator movie. Above all, unlike in Avatar, the effects do not overwhelm the human story.
