The Assassin (1993)

(Point of No Return)

Country: US
Technical: Technicolor/Panavision 108m
Director: John Badham
Cast: Bridget Fonda, Gabriel Byrne, Dermot Mulroney, Miguel Ferrer, Harvey Keitel, Olivia D'Abo

Synopsis:

A delinquent druggie on death row is given a reprieve on condition that she work for a secret government agency as a highly trained killer.

Review:

Hollywood remake of Besson's Nikita, completely missing the requisite darkness of tone. The result is that the violence comes across as cynical exploitation when taken alongside the sentimental premise: that the central character can become a sensitive moral being by virtue of wearing designer clothes and having a few nice words spoken to her. One of the worst films of its year.
