The Andromeda Strain (1970)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/scope 131m
Director: Robert Wise
Cast: Arthur Hill, David Wayne, James Olson

Synopsis:

Scientists in a sealed underground facility study a lethal alien micro-organism that has returned to Earth on a satellite and wiped out life in a remote desert community, with the exception of an old man and a baby. The facility is rigged with a nuclear auto-destruct, should a leak occur within the lab.

Review:

All the better for its wealth of scientific detail, Crichton's stark script is enlivened with some eye-catching directorial touches and receives a handsome Universal production. The sudden and inconclusive ending is very much of its time but adds to the general air of efficiency. However, the acting is decidedly wooden, and the layman may find the intricacies hard to follow.
