Director: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo
Cast: Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Josh Brolin, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hiddleston

Synopsis:

The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy join forces to stop Thanos from acquiring all six Infinity stones, and thus wipe out half of the Universe through his boundless mercy.

Review:

With bookends in which it despatches several of its stock characters, Marvel's climactic confrontation with Thanos, which has been building since Avengers Assemble, sets a seal of gravitas on an at times wantonly flippant series. It then leaves us unceremoniously on a cliffhanger pending the following year's Endgame segment. Cynical big-bucks merchandising at its most flagrant, then, and the succession of authoritatively labelled worlds between which the action flits reassures at least that the makers mean business. Conception and execution are on a par with the best of the series: the onslaught of feral creatures on the dome of Wakanda conjures a certain frisson, and the Scarlet Witch's despatch of Vision has great poignancy, even as it underlines the fact that they have used this particular action code at least once already in the movie.
