Atomic Blonde (2017)

£0.00

Country: US/GER/SV/HUN
Technical: col/2.39:1 115m
Director: David Leitch
Cast: Charlize Theron, James McAvoy, Eddie Marsan, John Goodman, Toby Jones, James Faulkner, Sofia Butella

Synopsis:

1989: an MI6 agent is sent to Berlin to stop the KGB from getting hold of a 'list' of agents and double agents and their contacts. With the Iron Curtain about to come down, the rules of engagement have coarsened somewhat, and no one is to be trusted.

Review:

Based on a graphic novel, this is a far cry from the Cold War espionage of Le Carré et al. Emphasis is very much on 'image' and state of the art wizardry: graphics, sudden slow mo, flashy editing and some bone-crushing close quarter scenes. Theron (who co-produced) manages to hold all this together impressively well, though she is not so much called upon to act as be put physically through the mincer. However, the story is hardly compelling stuff; just watch and wince.
