At Gunpoint (1955)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/scope 80m
Director: Alfred Werker
Cast: Fred MacMurray, Dorothy Malone, Walter Brennan

Synopsis:

A general storekeeper kills a badman in spite of himself and becomes a local hero, but the townspeople back swiftly away when it looks as though the deceased's fellow bandits are out for revenge.

Review:

A High Noon imitator which errs in spelling out the messages Carl Foreman left all but unsaid: a community must support all its members, danger to the part is danger to the whole. Nor does it have the rigour and suspense of its predecessor, and colour and wide screen do not help maintain the necessary pared-down quality for this kind of Western. All of which renders it almost devoid of interest, save for MacMurray's solid portrayal of a man who has never used a gun before, and has no intention of learning now. The odd thing is, he doesn't seem half as scared as Coop, who was a marshal and could shoot true!
