Country: US/EIRE
Technical: DeLuxe/2.35:1 99m
Director: David Mackenzie
Cast: Ian McKellen, Natasha Richardson, Marton Csokas, Hugh Bonneville, Judy Parfitt

Synopsis:

In the 1950s a psychiatrist takes up a new post as deputy warden of a hospital for the mentally ill, but his wife betrays him, then the hospital and then her son by falling for the patient selected to repair the glass house in their garden.

Review:

Deliberate, subtle, chilling depiction of a soul in torment, in part through her own actions, but mainly through the circumstances in which she finds herself and her manipulation by the urbane McKellen. The period and mood are superbly caught by the production and the lead performances are first-rate.
