(Astérix et Obélix contre César)

Country: FR/GER/IT
Technical: col/scope 109m
Director: Claude Zidi
Cast: Christian Clavier, Gérard Depardieu, Roberto Benigni, Michel Galabru, Claude Piéplu, Arielle Dombasle, Gottfried John

Synopsis:

A Gaulish village holds out against Casear thanks to a magic strength-giving potion prepared by its druid. When JC determines to subdue this last pocket of resistance he entrusts his conniving lieutenant Detritus with the task, but the latter has his own designs on the potion.

Review:

Broad, rather heavy-handed first live-action treatment of the beloved cartoon strip. The characters are cast well enough, the effects more or less adequate, but the jokes don't have the sparkle of Goscinny's original.
