Ask a Policeman (1938)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: bw 82m
Director: Marcel Varnel
Cast: Will Hay, Moore Marriott, Graham Moffat

Synopsis:

The village of Turnbotham Round is presided over by three of the most incompetent and venal police officers in the country, or at least this is the conclusion of the Chief Constable when they appear on BBC Radio as not having made a single arrest in over ten years. Meanwhile they detect a case of actual smuggling that might just get them off the hook.

Review:

One of the trio's brisker comedy thrillers, all the better for the inclusion of some genuine thrills surrounding the appearances of the Headless Horseman. Many of the jokes fall resoundingly flat now, but along with the back-projections and speeded up stunts are part of the charm. The performances are still fresh, and some of the downright silliness and the Moffat character's worldliness raise a smile.
