Country: SW/US
Technical: col/scope 117m
Director: Richard Fleischer
Cast: Michael Caine, Omar Sharif, Peter Ustinov, Beverly Johnson, William Holden, Rex Harrison

Synopsis:

A UN doctor in Africa is kidnapped by slavers and caravanned across the desert to be sold to a sheikh in Egypt. Her husband meanwhile tracks them by any means he can, ultimately sinking to the same ethics as his quarry.

Review:

This trite thriller's one point of interest, the glimpse it offers of the centuries-old trans-Saharan slave route, is, needless to say of little concern to plot mechanics (which are themselves elementary in the extreme: helicopter pilot Holden would be such an asset as to settle the matter inside half an hour, so he must go). Thus, instead of doing a Queimada! and crying out in solidarity with the poor unfortunates accompanying our heroine to their fate, the makers are only concerned with rescuing the westerner from those she resembles but superficially.
