Arsène Lupin (2004)

£0.00

Country: FR/GB/SP/IT
Technical: col/2.35:1 131m
Director: Jean-Paul Salomé
Cast: Romain Duris, Kristin Scott Thomas, Pascal Greggory, Eva Green, Robin Renucci

Synopsis:

The infamously charming - and charmed - burglar and jewel thief, Arsène Lupin, son a kickboxing master thief and master of disguise, prides himself on never having killed but becomes embroiled in the machinations of a group of rival scoundrels and royal sponsor in their concerted quest for three crucifixes that hold the secret to the location of the treasure of the kings of France.

Review:

Frenetic, never-a-dull-moment adventure which faithfully conveys the mercurial character of the eponymous hero in what is certainly a long overdue cinematic revival. On the negative side, as with A Very Long Engagement, which it at times resembles, the action is somewhat overstretched for one whose outcome is uncertain when it finally arrives. Moreover, unlike that film it is never quite clear where the breathless narrative is headed as it unfurls, and while the pace is exhilarating the returns are inevitably diminishing as miraculous escape follows treachery follows miraculous escape.
