Arrival (2016)
Country: US
Technical: col/2.35:1 116m
Director: Denis Villeneuve
Cast: Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker
Synopsis:
Twelve pod-shaped alien spaceships materialize on Earth, and a philologist helps the US authorities to communicate with the visitors.
Review:
Focused as much on the inner world of the female protagonist, a bereaved mother, as on the hurlyburly of international crisis, this is a distinctive addition to the alien invasion subgenre, which has been almost invariably hostile since Independence Day. So refreshing to have a science fiction film in which acting is more important than spectacle (budget was only $47 million), and Adams is splendid.
