Army of Darkness (1992)

(Evil Dead 3: The Medieval Dead)

Country: US
Technical: col 81m
Director: Sam Raimi
Cast: Bruce Campbell, Embeth Davidtz, Marcus Gilbert, Ian Abercrombie

Synopsis:

A Wall Mart attendant is dragged back into the Middle Ages by the Necronomicon, or book of the dead. Having first established his position at the top of society, he must repossess the book before he can be returned to his own time.

Review:

Second sequel to The Evil Dead, whose emphasis is much less on scares and gore, but rather on wry humour and slapstick violence. Campbell mugs and gurns like Jim Carrey, and Raimi leans heavily on the Foley and clearly wishes to indulge in some homages of his own, namely Monty Python and Ray Harryhausen (in a protracted castle assault at the end). Released straight to video in some territories, this is strictly for die hard fans and completists.
