Arise, My Love (1940)

Country: US
Technical: bw 113m
Director: Mitchell Leisen
Cast: Claudette Colbert, Ray Milland, Walter Abel

Synopsis:

An adventurous pilot and vivacious newspaperwoman hotfoot around Europe on the eve of WW2.

Review:

Topical piece of propaganda, made just as France was falling and out when that was still news, this romantic comedy is full of corny Brackett and Wilder dialogue and arch bits of poetry, but is a delight because it is also funny, and everyone works at the top of their game. Like Foreign Correspondent, and of course Casablanca later, its purpose was to get America on side, and it manages to deliver that message while giving us a good time.
