Appaloosa (2008)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: DeLuxe/2.35:1 115m
Director: Ed Harris
Cast: Ed Harris, Viggo Mortensen, Renée Zellweger, Jeremy Irons, Timothy Spall, Lance Henriksen

Synopsis:

A pair of guns for hire arrive in a town being lorded over by a cattle baron and get themselves taken on as lawmen troubleshooters. At the same time a widow arrives in town to play piano at the hotel. They successfully bring their quarry to book but he escapes and comes back legitimized by a presidential pardon.

Review:

Leisurely western, handsomely decked out with some classic sets, one western, one Mexican, and an unusual impudence pertaining to the female interest who seems ready to switch her affections to whoever is top dog at the time. The dialogue is somewhat indistinct, Irons uncomfortable in his role and Spall redundant in his. There is the notable refinement, no doubt historically accurate, whereby guns are unholstered during a face-off, prior to being discharged. Apparently a labour of love for the star/director/producer/co-writer.
