Apache (1954)
Country: US
Technical: col 91m
Director: Robert Aldrich
Cast: Burt Lancaster, Jean Peters
Synopsis:
After the surrender of Geronimo, many Apache are transported to Florida but one, Massai, escapes and returns to farm peacefully with his girl, if he can.
Review:
One of the first westerns to portray its story from the Indian's perspective; even if played by a white actor, at least it wasn't Jeff Chandler. We consequently identify with Massai's one-man war against the US cavalry, however hopeless. Unhappily, United Artists imposed an absurdly optimistic ending on the filmmakers.
