Any Given Sunday (1999)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: Technicolor/scope 150m
Director: Oliver Stone
Cast: Al Pacino, Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx, Dennis Quaid, James Woods, Matthew Modine

Synopsis:

The Miami sharks have a difficult season, what with their veteran coach fighting with the management and struggling to turn his hotshot quarterback into a team player.

Review:

The Stone blend of frenetic editing, non-stop music and shouting gets a bit much after about an hour; then the film settles down into some terse exchanges which doubtless mean a lot more to the devotee but which boil down to two themes: TV is killing football and there is more to football than winning, hence the title quotation ('On any given Sunday either you win or you lose; the important thing is to do it like a man').
