Angélique et le roy (1966)

£0.00

Country: FR/IT/GER
Technical: Eastmancolor/2.35:1 100m
Director: Bernard Borderie
Cast: Michèle Mercier, Jean Rochefort, Jacques Toja, Sami Frey, Robert Hossein

Synopsis:

Widowed by the war in Flanders, Angélique reluctantly agrees to serve on a diplomatic mission for King Louis, who harbours a barely disguised passion for her person. Almost raped and murdered by the Bey, she is rescued and turns even this to her advantage. However, her presence at court draws attempts on her life from the King's favourite, and she soon learns that her late husband, Jeoffrey de Peyrac, may not be as dead as everyone believes.

Review:

Another smorgasbord plot for the ever-lucrative Golon saga: a bit of flagellation here, a bit of child sacrifice there. Sami Frey's Persian hero-villain does inject a touch of danger and interest, however, and Mercier continues to look ravishing, whether standing or reclining, in a variety of frocks.
