American Hustle (2013)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/2.35:1 138m
Director: David O. Russell
Cast: Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Jennifer Lawrence

Synopsis:

A couple of confidence tricksters, who pose as lenders of last resort, find themselves being used by an ambitious FBI man to entrap a New Jersey mayor and various congressmen and politicians, but the deal also involves members of the gambling industry's mob fraternity.

Review:

While it never bothers to explain how our hero does not have a lynch mob of disgruntled customers wanting their money back, Russell's amusing picture of seventies fantasy-bubble criminality and political naïvety ('parts of which are true') does capture its characters and period well, thanks to excellent performances, costume and makeup.
