Alice (1990)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: DuArt 106m
Director: Woody Allen
Cast: Mia Farrow, Joe Mantegna, William Hurt, Blythe Danner, Alec Baldwin, Judy Davis, Bernadette Peters, Cybill Shepherd

Synopsis:

A lapsed Catholic, Manhattan housewife meets a jazz saxophonist, begins to doubt the values of her existence and tries several herbal remedies from a Chinatown doctor which only compound her difficulties.

Review:

An Allen potboiler if ever, with the star at her most Woody-like. The whimsical plot developments, affluent wives' smalltalk, and wish-fulfilment fantasies have all been aired before and only occasionally raise a smile. The Chinese replacement for the usual therapist is a welcome ethnic touch but basically the film lacks shape.
