Alcarràs (2022)

£0.00

Country: SP/IT
Technical: col 120m
Director: Carla Simón
Cast: Josep Abad, Jordi Pujol Dolcet, Albert Bosch, Anna Otin

Synopsis:

Among the fruit groves of Catalunya, solar panels bring in more euros than peaches, and a family that has been living rent free for generations suddenly finds itself due for eviction come the harvest.

Review:

There is a difference between a political 'cri de cœur' and a film drama, and one senses this was garlanded more for its naturalistic performances and feel than for narrative structure or variation in tone. Indeed, it does feel as if the extended family members are playing themselves, but the pace is deadeningly slow. The dominant sentiment is the righteous anger, centred around the son, that his father did not ask to sign a piece of paper transferring ownership of the land when his family gave sanctuary to the landowning Pinyols during the Civil War; another film to pick over the scabs of that conflict, which was also regional.
