7 Women (1966)
Country: US
Technical: col/scope 100m
Director: John Ford
Cast: Anne Bancroft, Flora Robson, Margaret Leighton, Sue Lyon
Synopsis:
China, 1935: missionaries at the prey of a Mongol warlord are saved by a more worldly doctor who sacrifices herself to his appetites.
Review:
Entertaining melodrama after Boule de Suif, complete with frustrated lesbian and expectant mother among the beleaguered group. Bancroft scoops the acting honours. An extraordinary swansong for its director, and not a very modish one: thirty years previously this would have been a racy little hit and it still garnered an 'X' certificate from the BBFC!
