55 Days at Peking (1962)

Country: US
Technical: Super Technirama 70 154m
Director: Nicholas Ray, Andrew Marton
Cast: Charlton Heston, David Niven, Ava Gardner, Flora Robson, Robert Helpmann, Leo Genn, Paul Lukas, John Ireland, Harry Andrews

Synopsis:

In 1900 the Ch'ing dynasty puts up only token resistance when anti-government rebels, known as Boxers, threaten the Christian embassies in Peking.

Review:

One of the Samuel Bronston Spanish super-productions, this made good use of the Sixties vogue for international casts and works up to some spectacular action sequences. The human stories (illicit love, an orphaned child) are, however, hackneyed in the extreme and irrelevant longueurs pad out the running time.
