Synopsis:
At the time of the shogunate, a witch helps an unscrupulous warlord bring about the downfall of another, who must kill himself to preserve his honour. His samurai are dispersed, and daughter condemned to wedlock with her enemy, but a half-breed with whom she is secretly in love is enlisted by the leaderless ronin to avenge the injustice.
Review:
Colourful, kinetic, but highly artificial attempt at making a Hollywood version of an eastern Western, complete with honourably downbeat ending. It is a suitable codicil to Reeves's career of first debunking, then sanctifying supernaturally gifted heroes, but the special effects are charmless affairs, and the 'miraculous' combat sequences confusingly staged.
