21 Grams (2003)

£0.00

Country: US/GER
Technical: DeLuxe 124m
Director: Alejandro González Iñárritu
Cast: Sean Penn, Naomi Watts, Benicio Del Toro, Charlotte Gainsbourg

Synopsis:

A terminal heart patient is saved by a donor organ after a fatal road accident, and he determines to discover the story behind his mysterious benefactor. Meanwhile, the latter's widow is nursing plans of vengeance upon the driver of the vehicle, a born again Christian and reformed criminal.

Review:

Similarly tripartite in conception and centred on a car accident, this powerful film adopts a totally different structural approach to Amores Perros: it flits about in time and place to such an extent that it takes the unprepared a good twenty minutes to get a handle on the sequence of events and character backstories. Even so, some shots remain unexplained until the last act. The actors are filmed in merciless close-up and deliver totally committed performances.
