With the world on the brink of super-power conflict, this is more to do with "The Day the Earth Stood Still" than with its predecessor. But it is nonetheless effective and immaculately made. A true sequel, rather than a retread, unveiling some of the mysteries of 2001, while managing to create a few confusions of its own. With recognisable human beings making up the crew and state of the art visual effects, this is one-man band Hyams at the top of his form.
