Jew Suss (1934)
Country: GB
Technical: bw 109m
Director: Lothar Mendes
Cast: Conrad Veidt, Benita Hume
Synopsis:
In eighteenth century Wurtemburg a Jew tries to better his existence in the ghetto with the help of a lustful Duke.
Review:
Somewhat wooden and over-extended filming of a novel with inflammatory potential in the political climate of the time. There is a rousing finish, though the hanging method used was given understandably fuller representation in Veit Harlan's anti-semitic remake/response.
