Isabelle de jour

Just seen Ozon's Jeune & Jolie, and found it to be as elegant and mixed up as its young heroine, uncertain whether it is offering a comment on the prevalent sexualisation of youngsters' lives leading to frigid wantonness, or a Buñuelian pièce à outrance with tongue partly in cheek. Either way, it never quite convinces, though it is nicely constructed around the four seasons, as if to offer some Rohmerian charm, and Ozon favourite Charlotte Rampling (who appeared in her own equivalent, Max mon amour) provides a suitably ambiguous finale in a hotel room tryst.jeune-et-jolie
